Tooth-Coloured Fillings at London Road Dental Practice

Most of us will need a filling at some point.
But not all fillings are equal, and they’re definitely not what they used to be.

Here at London Road Dental Practice, we use white, BPA-free composite fillings, shaped carefully to blend in, function naturally, and preserve as much healthy tooth as possible.
No mercury, no grey metal, no black blobs in your smile. Just comfortable, discreet repairs that look and feel like your real tooth.

Do I have to get a filling done right now?

Decay is a bit like rot in wood. Once it starts, it doesn’t stop on its own. The longer you leave it, the more tooth we have to remove, and the bigger the filling gets, until it may no longer be fixable with a simple repair.

Does it hurt?

Not at all. You’re the on-off switch, we’re just the moving parts in the machine. You’ll be completely numb before we start, and we won’t do a thing until you’re ready. We can even break treatment into parts if needed.

Can I choose white instead of silver fillings?

Absolutely. In fact, we’ve only used white fillings since 1996. My parents wouldn’t use amalgam on me, so they wouldn’t use it on patients either. That principle hasn’t changed.

Our fillings are:
• BPA-free composite, shaped to fit your bite
• Colour-matched to blend with your natural teeth
• Designed to preserve more tooth than older metal options

“How long do fillings last?”

That depends on where it is, your bite, and how well it’s looked after. Nothing in dentistry lasts forever, but done well and maintained, they can last many years.

If a filling keeps failing, we ask why.
Is it grinding? A diet issue? Toothbrush trauma? Because as we say, “If it keeps failing, we need to find out why.”

I had a filling done years ago and it’s now cracked – can you replace it?

Yes. Often, we can remove the failing material and rebuild with modern composite. But if too much tooth has gone, a crown may be the better long-term solution.
As I sometimes say “You can patch a leaking roof with tiles, but sometimes the whole roof needs reinforcing.”

Don’t wait until it hurts.
Pain is usually the last thing to arrive, and by then, the nerve may be involved. A filling done early is quick, conservative, and simple. A filling done too late could turn into a root canal, or worse, an extraction.

At London Road, we’re not here to lecture.
We’re here to help you understand what’s happening, give you your options, and support you to make the choice that’s right for you.
We draw a line in the sand, and go forward together.
